Myths about Fertility Treatment

Debunking myths about fertility treatment

Don’t be fooled by false information. New patients often believe several myths about fertility treatment when they first visit our Central Kentucky fertility specialist. George Veloudis DO is here to debunk some of the myths about fertility treatment.

Myth #1: Fertility treatment is uncommon

One in eight women will face infertility in their lifetime, so you aren’t alone if you need fertility treatment. Just like with other common conditions, infertility is highly treatable.

Myth #2: I’ll have to do IVF

One of the biggest myths about fertility treatment is that everyone will need IVF. Only 25% of patients of our Central Kentucky fertility specialist undergo IVF. The vast majority of fertility issues can be addressed through other treatments such as fertility medications and intrauterine insemination, or IUI.

Myth #3: IVF is scary

If IVF is a couple’s best chance of success, the staff at our Central Kentucky fertility clinic will carefully guide them through each step of the process. Through education and extraordinary care, patients of an experienced fertility specialist feel like they are finally in control of their fertility.

The difference between fertility specialists and obgyns

In addition to these myths about fertility treatment, many men and women are confused about the difference between fertility specialists and obgyns. Both obgyns and fertility specialists complete the same residencies after medical school, and are board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. However, a fertility specialist must complete additional fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology. As a result, an obgyn treats a wide array of women’s health issues, while our Central Kentucky fertility specialist focuses on helping patients attain and maintain healthy pregnancies.

At our Central Kentucky fertility center, our specialized resources allow us to give men and women the attentive treatment they need. Our fertility specialist and staff use this expertise to make dreams of parenthood a reality. Contact us for more information.
